Twenty-eight thousand visitors attended Seeboden, Austria’s week-long (July 12-18) World Body Painting Festival 2010, presented by Kryolan, the multi-national “professional makeup” firm that sponsored what was described as “the biggest body painting event ever.” With workshops taking place Monday to Thursday and covering the areas of body painting, face painting, airbrush, special effects, makeup, color theory of colors and lectures on photography and lectures on the history of body art, this thirteen-year-old event showcased many of the field’s most knowledgeable and talented artists. The celebration and judging took place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday in a packed auditorium of body art enthusiasts from around the globe. Commentary: Although I see some very inventive and colorful work here, I’d love to see what would happen if Paul Booth, Filip Leu, Shige or any number of the tattoo world’s top artists had contributed to this event.
