Red Stewart Austin’s amazingly detailed hardcover book The Classic Pin-up Art of George Petty (Gramercy Books, Foreword by Hugh Hefner) is a complete history of the artist and his times by the personal art director for Alberto Vargas and associate art director of Playboy magazine. At over one-hundred-and-ninety pages, the nine-by-twelve volume contains dozens and dozens of full-page, full-color reproductions of the illustrator’s best pinup work. This is clearly a “must have” for any serious tattoo artist or collector, especially those who love the work of Vargas, Olivia and Nestler. Here’s a small sample of a calendar that Petty created for a leading tool company of the era. Enjoy!
