Known for his love of big cats and tattoos, Roy Cooper of Gary, Indiana, better known as “Roy Boy,” has died of liver failure at his home in Hobart on Tuesday, July 20th. Owning and operating a tattoo shop in Glen Park for thirty years, Roy was recently caught up in a dispute with the federal officials over his pet tigers. Cooper used to say, “I’m a tattoo guy forever. A lot of tattoo guys in the old days were from circuses and stuff, carnies and so on. I was always drawn to the cats.” It was in May when federal animal welfare officials seized his four tigers. They were confiscated from Cooper’s tattoo shop, where he kept them in large cages. His son, Adam, said that this chain of events probably affected his father. “I’m sure that [his death] not just a coincidence,” he said. Cooper numbered among his clients Cher, Lenny Kravitz and Steven Tyler of Aerosmith.

“I don’t know why, but this one hurts a little. He was one of the original bad boys, and he really introduced the genre of videos and piercing and tattooing to the world. I may have to watch one of these this weekend, in respect.”
