Photo of Brian by Samara Alpern.

I cannot say enough about Brian Everett. One of the true innovators and shining stars in the tattoo universe, back in the 1970s (!), Brian, along with Good Time Charlie Cartwright, Jack Rudy and Freddy Negrete, established single-needle  tattooing as the precursor of today’s  black & gray portrait phenomenon (think of Bob Tyrrell, Nikko Hurtado, Paul Booth and Robert Hernandez). Brian was one of my first interviews. When we visited his shop, Route 66, in Albuquerque,  in 1997, and had a wonderful dinner with Brian, his wife Paula and their baby daughter, it was Brian who encouraged me to continue my quest to put out the best tattoo magazine in America. Here’s some photos from a story by Samara Alpern in the November 2009 issue.
